The Underwater Life

The Mascarenes islands that include Mauritius, Rodrigues and Reunions island mainly were spared by 1998 El nino effects that devastated most of the corals through out the world.  El nino is a very warm system in the atmosphere that brings the water temperature quite high helping in the development and proliferation of bacteria that would kill the zooxanthellae living within the coral polyps that would cause coral whitening and bleaching then death. Mauritius was less severely touched (+/- 2%) because of our current coming from the west coast of Australia. This phenomenon, instead, favoured the growth of some other species such as madreporas and acroporas.

Diving in Mauritius is diverse, and in good conditions and easy. After the dives offers multiple opportunity to enjoy other pleasures: superb panoramas,  white beaches, wonderful turquoise lagoons,  some nice tails in 4 x 4 in the tropical rain forest, full day at sea and picnic on small desert islands, nautical sports, Golf, the local gastronomy..
